WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE?
by Deb Margolin
A tragicomic human cartoon located in a telephonocracy – a land where the telephone company's Board of Directors has created its constitution and rules the world. The main characters, Myrtle and Arnold Schmidt, struggle to reconcile different views on the importance of their own status as fictional characters, and hence the very meaning of their lives. Puppetry, live music, a magical set, and a tender blur of the absurd, the philosophical and the tragic are all ascendant as Myrtle, a crackerjack corporate attorney and a famous pastry chef, and Arnold, her besotted, unemployed husband, try to reason their way out of a deep divide on the importance of realness: What Difference Does It Make?
